Friedel Dzubas (b. 1915, Berlin, Germany, d. 1994, Newton, MA)  was an American-German painter celebrated among the second generation of Abstract Expressionists in mid-century New York. His style eschewed expressionistic brushwork, turning instead to a new “cool,” surface flatness attained by pouring, sponging, and spraying acrylic paint. Dzubas held over 60 solo exhibitions during his lifetime. He  taught at prominent institutions such as Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, Cornell University in New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  This print is a collaboration between Friedel Dzubas and Keiji Shinohara, a  Japanese artist trained in the traditional Ukiyo-e style of printing, printed in an edition of 45, to mark Triangle’s 20th anniversary.
