Sound artists Simo Alitalo & Tuike Alitalo lead a collective listening walk throughout Dumbo, Brooklyn.

Participants are invited to open their ears, learn to listen anew and gain a novel perspective on their surroundings. Finnish sound artists Simo Alitalo & Tuike Alitalo lead a collective listening walk throughout Dumbo, Brooklyn.

The walk lasts approximately one hour and is followed by group discussion and Q&A. Wear good shoes and proper attire for the weather. Simo Alitalo & Tuike Alitalo’s artistic practice involves sound art, installation, participatory performances, environmental art and writing. They create sound installations based on field recordings and work in the field of participatory art producing communal sound performances and listening walks. Their work often emerges from the basic question of acoustemology: what do we know about the world through sense of hearing, and how what we hear affects the way we understand the world. Through a partnership with the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York they are in residence at Triangle from December–February 2016–17.
