ABOUT THE FILM
In her latest film "Looking for Jesus," Katarzyna Kozyra takes on the role of a researcher who travels across Jerusalem in search of Jesus. The impulse to make this film came from the artist learning about the so-called Jerusalem syndrome - an acute delusional disorder, which affects nearly 200 people visiting the Holy Land every year. Those who suffer from it begin to identify themselves with biblical characters, most often with the Messiah himself. They leave behind earthly human matters and choose a simple life on the street proclaiming God's word.

Kozyra searches for and portrays extraordinary individuals that are all characterized by an attempt to escape the established, institutionalized framework of faith. Kozyra’s Jesuses are individuals liberated from social coercions, conventions and patterns. They approach the subject of faith in a unique way, conducting their own form of research in this field.

"Looking for Jesus" is not merely a film about the Jerusalem syndrome, but rather about the mechanisms of faith and the way of building one's own view of reality. The film oscillates between a documentary, a travel journal and an art piece. "Looking for Jesus" premiered in May 2018 during the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival in Warsaw, as part of Kozyra's long-term artistic research project carried out in Jerusalem, an uncompromising, open way of speaking about religion and faith.

The screening of this 73-minute film will be followed by a conversation with Kozyra and Nova Benway, Executive Director of Triangle Arts Association.
