Print Edition
Triangle Arts Association has published this edition of the American artist Larry Poons, in consortium with Benefit Print Project, in support of our residency program for artists. This intimate, energetic image is based on a painting on wood; it exemplifies Poons’s painterly abstractions, and was selected by the artist for the project. An alumnus of Triangle himself, Poons is one of many illustrious world figures with whom we have worked since we were founded by Anthony Caro and Robert Loder in 1982. Among many hundreds of others, past participants include artists such as Ron Gorchov, Al Loving, Ingrid Calame, Hamra Abbas, Jitish Kallat and Hew Locke along with visiting critics such as Clement Greenberg, Michael Fried, Robert Storr, David Cohen, Carter Foster, Ian Alteveer, Frank Gehry and Karen Wilkin, to name just a few.
Beginning with his seminal paintings of dots and ellipses nearly six decades ago, Larry Poons has remained at the forefront of the development of painting with uniquely innovative works of art. These works have been acquired by many institutions, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Art Institute of Chicago; Cleveland Museum of Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain, Nice; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, Ludwig Foundation, Vienna; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; Tate Gallery, London; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
